High-Profile CEOs See Security Perks Climb in Divisive Environment

Nearly 40 S&P 500 firms included security costs in their CEOs’ perk packages last year, according to an analysis of data from public company intelligence provider MyLogIQ.

The percentage of CEOs receiving home security upgrades, bodyguards and other perks has remained little changed in recent years, the data shows. But for some CEOs — particularly those in the spotlight — spending on perks skyrocketed last year.

As CEOs increasingly become the face of their companies, including with their statements on hot-button or divisive issues, boards will have to continually evaluate their security needs, analysts say.

Meta reported the largest security perk package, providing CEO Mark Zuckerberg with $9.4 million in benefits last year. Overall, security perks accounted for 38% of the $24.4 million that he received in compensation last year, the company’s proxy statement noted.
