The median pay for CEOs at the biggest U.S. companies was $11.7 million in 2016, up from $10.8 million the year before and a post-recession record, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of S&P 500 firms. Most CEOs received a pay raise of at least 7%, amid a surging stock market and rising corporate profits. CEOs at technology, communications and entertainment companies continued to claim most of the top spots by pay. Those sectors took 15 of the top 25 spots. (Sundar Pichai, who made $200 million, is omitted because he runs Google, a unit of Alphabet Inc.)
